NBSV 026: Pro hockey player Shiann Darkangelo on fuelling her training, travelling as a vegan athlete, and more [podcast listener interview!]

Welcome to our second instalment of interviews with No-Bullshit Vegan podcast listeners. Today I’m honoured to have on the show Shiann Darkangelo (most people call her Shi). She’s been playing ice hockey for the last 16 years of her life, and has been plant-based for the past 7 years.

 

She discusses fuelling her training, travelling as a vegan athlete, how her veganism has been received by coaches and fellow athletes, and more.

 

Shi played college hockey at Quinnipiac University, and has played professionally for the last 3 years. She’s been on the US National team program for the past 4 years, and recently played for a professional team in Shenzhen China after getting cut from this past Olympic team. While she was in China, she got certified in plant-based nutrition through Dr. T. Colin Campbell’s program via eCornell. She was a 2016 world champion, and a 2017 NWHL champion.
