qathet Open Water Swim Club

Welcome!

Led by andrea bennett and Karina Inkster, The qathet Open Water Swim club (qOWSC) is an inclusive group for open-water swimmers in the qathet region. Join us on Facebook, or stay up-to-date with our swims on the events calendar below.

SPECIAL DATES FOR DESTINATION SWIMS:

Sunday, July 13 8:30am: Diver’s Rock in Lund (~2.5km)
Sunday, August 3 8:30am: Haslam Lake (distance TBD)
Sunday, August 10 8:00am: Myrtle Rocks (~2km)
Sunday, August 31 8:00am: Seawalk (1.2 or 2.4km; you choose)

If you'd like to join us for one of our destination swims, please come out to a few of our regular swims first, or get in touch with us.

Safety and inclusivity:

For visibility, we require people to swim with swim buoys. We have extra if you don’t have one.
At the beginning of each swim, we’ll do a quick little hello; we also ask folks to share if you have a health condition that could crop up while swimming that your fellow swimmers should know about. (That you carry an EpiPen, for example.)
We ask that folks feel comfortable swimming in open water. But pace is not a concern. For most of our swims, we choose lap-based routes, so people can go at the pace they feel most comfortable.
Every body is welcome! We are an LGBTQ2S+ affirming group. Please endeavour to use people’s proper pronouns and if you can, avoid using gendered language for groups (e.g. “Hey, folks!” instead of “Hi guys!” or “Hi ladies!”)
We recognize that we swim on the unceded, traditional territories of the Tla’amin, Klahoose and Homalco peoples. We will endeavour to use the ʔayʔaǰuθəm (ayajuthem) place names alongside the colonial names for the places we swim.
That’s it! We’re pretty chill people and we founded this group because we like to swim outdoors and it’s always more fun and safe to swim in a group. The vibe is: welcoming, non-competitive, supportive.
