MUSIC LESSONS

WITH KARINA INKSTER

Karina is an accordionist, pianist, and didgeridoo player.

She offers accordion and didgeridoo lessons on Fridays at the qathet Academy of Music and Arts, performs regularly, co-directs the qathet Accordion Fest, and released her first album, Aria di Tango, in 2025. In her non-musical life, she’s also a fitness and nutrition coach, author of 5 books, and podcast host.

Karina sees many similarities between music and fitness: the importance of building it into our daily lives, creating habits, focusing on the process rather than the outcome, and always remembering to have fun!

Karina has over 30 years of piano experience. In 2000, Karina began studying the didgeridoo with renowned visual artist and didgeridoo player Don Portelance. In 2007, during a “didgeridoo pilgrimage” to Australia, she learned from didgeridoo virtuoso Hermann Striegnitz. She now performs didgeridoo in several bands, including Hollowed Sound and Whatever Four.

Inspired by Yann Tiersen’s soundtrack to the Amélie film, Karina started studying accordion with Dr. Ross Braes in 2013. In 2018, after moving from Vancouver to Powell River, she began studying with Walter Martella. She and Walter now co-direct the annual qathet Accordion Fest, host accordion workshops, and perform at many concerts and festivals. In 2025, they released an album Aria di Tango, available on vinyl (and for free on all major streaming platforms).

Karina is a former oboist, having performed many seasons with the Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, and the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra (including a performance of Holst’s Planets suite with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, under Maestro Bramwell Tovey’s baton).
